THE EUREKA STORY
Jason was introduced to the SAT* in seventh grade when he was selected by Johns Hopkins University to participate in a nationwide youth talent search. The University tested gifted students and their ability to score well on the SAT. As a junior-high student, Jason had not taken Algebra or Geometry courses, yet he scored higher than the national average for eleventh and twelfth graders. Although he was unaware of it at the time, when faced with these unfamiliar concepts, Jason employed the strategies that would later become the basis for EUREKA.
Jason took the SAT again during his junior year of high school. His scores placed him in the top 3% of juniors everywhere; however, he still aspired to score higher. As a result, he enrolled with some friends in an SAT review class. The class focused on basic concepts that Jason already knew, but, when it came to his personal trouble spots, he was afraid to ask for help, wanting to avoid looking foolish in front of his friends. Jason's score remained the same when he retook the test. He knew, though, there had to be a better way to prepare.
The combination of scoring well on the SAT, earning a 4.6 GPA, and being named Valedictorian allowed Jason to attend his first-choice school, UCLA. While there, he became a tutor and discovered that teaching students at their pace, based on a curriculum generated specifically for their personal needs, was much more effective than traditional classroom practices. In 1994, after realizing these principles could be applied to help better prepare students for taking standardized tests like the SAT, Jason started teaching SAT Review at the one-on-one level.
Jason Moreno, Founder and CEO
Jason founded EUREKA as an alternative to the crowded classrooms many students deal with while preparing for the SAT. After graduating from UCLA, Jason joined Deloitte & Touche, and it was there that he earned his CPA designation while consulting with major corporations such as Hughes Aircraft and Raytheon. Then, he followed his entrepreneurial spirit and moved into the fast paced world of hi-tech start-ups. Jason raised over $50 million of debt and equity from top-tier investors including: Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers; Greylock; Goldman Sachs; idealab!; Intel; and Cox Communications. As the CFO of the $100M+ FirstLook, Jason brought streaming media to the forefront of the internet.
Concurrently, Jason taught CPA Review Classes, as well as business classes at UCLA. His charismatic and energetic approach led to rave reviews from his students and he was consistently the top-rated instructor and received numerous accolades. His teachings were videotaped and used across the country to help students prepare for standardized tests, and to help future teachers become more effective and efficient in their lessons.
Jason now devotes all of his time to EUREKA, as he knows that the SAT Review market needs a company like EUREKA to help students succeed. Parents love the EUREKA one-on-one model and students love the personalized lessons that give them the tools and confidence they need to watch their scores skyrocket! This book follows his successful achievements from accountant to entrepreneur, and is on sale now at Amazon.com.
